Continuing Education

Studio Classes at the Lyme Academy offer students of all levels an opportunity to receive the highest caliber of one-on-one professional art instruction, with the freedom to design their own schedules. Classes are offered weekdays, nights, and on weekends during ten-week trimesters, with additional classes and workshops offered in the summer.

During their studio training, students are guided through historically-based academic exercises with clear explanations, individual guidance, and demonstrations by acclaimed professional artists. Students advance in their learning through this sequential, skills-based process, moving at their own pace through each class.

The Academy focuses on strengthening critical observational skills and technical facility in each of its studio classes. This is accomplished through a program of individual exercises designed to introduce new concepts and complexities, allowing a strategic and progressive learning experience. Instructors introduce foundational to advanced concepts supportive of this process. These include: achieving accurate proportions, understanding the interaction between light and form, value relationships, structure, color theory, and color mixing.
