Lyme Academy Co-Artistic Director Amaya Gurpide Short-listed for Prestigious Hopper Prize
Lyme Academy’s Co-Artistic Director Amaya Gurpide was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Spring 2024 Hopper Prize, which seeks to increase recognition and advance the careers of visual artists around the globe through direct, unrestricted grant funding. Recipients of the Hopper Prize are chosen based on the quality of their work by a jury of prominent curators at major institutions. This year’s jury included Lauren Rosati, Associate Curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Maya Brooks, Assistant Curator at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Congratulations on reaching the finals, Amaya!

Portrait Prize for New Faculty Member David Baird
David Baird
, who has recently joined Lyme Academy’s distinguished list of faculty, received 3rd prize at the Salmagundi Club’s 8th Oil Portrait Sketching Competition on August 25, 2024. The one-day, live life-painting competition was organized by Alexander Katlan and was held at the Salmagundi Club in New York. Congratulations, David! 

Core Program Students Receive Top Honors
Two Lyme Academy Core Program students were awarded scholarships through the 24th Art Renewal Center (ARC) Scholarship Fund. Nathan Pennington received The Brian Yoder Memorial Scholarship ($6,000) and Jude Dutton received a 2nd place award ($2,000). The highly competitive ARC Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to some of the most talented emerging realist artists in the world, helping them to continue their studies. We couldn’t be prouder of you, Nathan and Jude!
