Dates: Monday, August 24 – Friday, August 28, 2026

Times: 9 am–3 pm, with a one-hour break for lunch (lunch not provided)
Levels/Ages: All levels; ages 14-18

In this studio course, students develop foundational oil painting skills through the practice of master copying—an approach historically used in ateliers and academies to study the techniques of great painters. Working from reproductions of selected paintings, students learn how artists organize value, color, and composition to create convincing form and atmosphere.

Through guided instruction, students gain practical experience with oil painting materials, color mixing, and brush handling while learning how to translate what they observe into a cohesive painting. This process helps students understand how master painters constructed their work while building confidence in their own technical abilities.
