In this comprehensive 10-week class, Lyme Academy Sculpture Chair Chad Fisher and student instructors Michael Siriotis and Liz Conway consider gesture and the dynamic movement of the human form through clay. Participants will create eight 24-inch clay figures, learning to capture the essence of gesture, volume, and proportion during the process.

Instructor-led demonstrations and critiques will guide students in refining their techniques and prioritizing gesture and form to deepen their understanding of volumes in space. Students will work with water-based clay, and can utilize one armature throughout the course or multiple armatures as needed for their projects.

Each week will feature a new model, ensuring the study of a diverse range of poses and movements. In the final three weeks of the workshop, the focus will shift to portraiture, allowing students to apply their skills to capture the subtleties of the human face. This format offers a unique opportunity to enhance artistic practice while exploring the complexities of form and gesture in clay.
