Artist Bio

A figurative artist based in Maryland, Rick Casali expresses his appreciation for nature and his love of the human body through his work. Whether painting a portrait in oils or sculpting a figure in clay, Casali keeps his artistic principles streamlined. As he explains, “It is the honest study of nature that leads one to beauty. I’m striving to capture the essence of what is happening . . . a certain color harmony in the landscape or the spirit of a person in the portrait.” Casali’s style embraces classicism, Impressionism, and elements of modern design, aiming to fuse the timeless geometry of the Greeks with a fresh, impressionistic vision of reality.

Believing in the perpetuation of artistic knowledge through teaching, Casali has taught drawing, painting, and sculpture at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, St. John’s College, and in workshops across the United States. He also serves as the Vice-President of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, and is represented by Haynes Galleries in Nashville, Tennessee, Egeli Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and the Annapolis Collection Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. Casali recently finished construction on his new north-light studio at his home in Maryland, where he both paints and teaches.
