In this workshop, students will learn about the myriad of color options available for finishing bronze sculptures. Instructor-led discussion and demonstration topics include: various surface preparation techniques, hot chemical application techniques, sealing processes, and nontraditional patinas. 

All levels are welcome. 

*Note: Video will not be permitted during these demonstrations. No previous experience is required for this demonstration-only workshop.

Supplies: All patina supplies are included in the cost of tuition; please bring a notebook/sketchbook for taking notes.

Artist Bio

Melanie Serkes has been working in the foundry world since 2007. She began her patina career in 2010 and has finished hundreds of bronze sculptures. She also has extensive metalsmithing and welding experience. Her patinas have been featured as part of the Fourth Plinth Project in London’s Trafalgar Square, the Broadway Mall Association’s rotating exhibition in New York, and in blue-chip galleries around the world. Serkes holds a BFA degree from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.
