Artist Bio
Eudald de Juana Gorriz was born to a family of sculptors in a small town near Girona, Spain. Surrounded by this artistic and picturesque environment, he learned the trade and developed a deep interest in art.
At 19, de Juana began his formal studies at Barcelona University (UB), where he explored many different artistic disciplines. His starting point was always the human form, through which he expressed personal and universal emotions and connections with viewers.
De Juana moved to Florence, Italy to focus his academic sculpture and drawing training at the Florence Academy of Art. Here, he pursued his interest in representing the human figure in a naturalist style based on the traditions of 19th-century French and Italian academies. He later became a principal instructor in sculpture and drawing at the Florence Academy.
In 2018, de Juana moved back to his Spanish hometown of Navata to set up Geode Art Space. Surrounded by nature, this became a site of creation for him and for other artists. De Juana continues to work here, mainly on private commissions.
De Juana has sculpted public monuments of Carles Rahola, the composer Manuel Blancafort, and Ritorno in Aria for the Cimetero Moumentale di Milano, Italy, and recently finished a commission, Memòria in Figueres, a symbol of the horrors of the Spanish Civil War. In addition to solo exhibitions at the Museu Empordà, the Museum of Figueres, the Museu de la Garrotxa, and the Museum of Olo, his works are in the permanent collection of the Museu d’Art Modern in Barcelona (MEAM). De Juana’s works are also featured in private collections in the US, Canada, the UK, Italy, Spain, Austria, France, Germany, Kuwait, and Hong Kong.
