Drawing Course

$0.00

Instructors: Rick Lacey, Edmond Rochat, Mina Mohtasham and Thomas LaPine
Dates: July 10-August 28, 2023 (8-week summer session)
Levels/Ages: All levels welcome; ages 15+

The Drawing Course introduces students to the culture and activities of the artist's studio, guiding students through a series of sequential and historically-based exercises designed to create a progressive learning experience.

Each student is provided with a studio workspace and begins with basic drawing exercises. These exercises help students to see simple shapes and determine accurate proportions. Students build on these foundations by moving on to more complex exercises, as they are introduced to such ideas as light on form, perceiving tonal relationships, and edge treatment. The Drawing Course culminates with the creation of fully resolved drawings of plaster casts, bringing together the skills learned in previous lessons.

Within the Course, individualized instruction allows students to move through the curriculum at their own pace. Should students wish to accelerate their progress, they may enroll in multiple daily classes. Figure and portrait drawing classes are also available to supplement the lessons learned in the Drawing Course.

For those students who wish to pursue the Painting Course, the Drawing Course will provide the recommended foundational support.

Drawing Course sections include 3 hours of same-day uninstructed studio time, with the exception of Tuesday evenings. This studio time will provide students with an opportunity to continue working on their exercises independently.
