Beginning in 2025, one Lyme Academy student or graduate will be awarded a one-month Ayrshire Artist Residency Award at the Ayrshire Atelier in the town of Largs in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The Academy will cover the cost of the residency and accommodations. Ayrshire Atelier will provide studio space and mentoring, which includes an hour-long session at the beginning of each week of the residency in which to strategize and plan, a 30-minute critique each day, and a final critique.
“We are absolutely thrilled to announce this partnership between Ayrshire Atelier of Fine Art and Lyme Academy,” states Sarah Margaret Gibson, Creative Director and Principal Studio Instructor. “We have eagerly followed the development of Lyme Academy’s programme ever since its current creative directors, Jordan Sokol and Amaya Gurpide, took over stewardship of the illustrious institution. They have helped to turn it into one of the top atelier programmes in the world now, and we are so excited to have the opportunity of working with its students and graduates through the ‘Ayrshire Atelier Residency Award.’ We hope this residency programme will facilitate a great cross-pollination of creative and technical knowledge, and we hope to engender an invaluable creative experience to the recipients of the award.”
