Lyme Academy Scholarships

Stanley & Naomi Bleifeld (2000) established by Stanley and Naomi Bleifeld to provide a scholarship for a Core sculpture student.

The Howard Brundage Endowed Scholarship Fund (1999) established by Mrs. Howard Brundage in memory of her husband.

The Robert K. Chandler Fund (1999) established by the Robert K. Chandler Foundation, which was founded by Elisabeth de Gerenday. Elisabeth Gordon Chandler founded Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in 1976.

Mario Cooper – Dale Meyers Scholarship Award Fund (2007) established by Dale Meyers Cooper in memory her husband. Mario Cooper was a well-known illustrator. Dale was an established watercolor artist and the first woman elected president of Allied Artists of America.

Cary Getchell (’82) Scholarship & Stipend (2004) established by the Estate of Harry Getchell and members of the Getchell family in honor of Cary Getchell (’82) who loved the Academy and which sharpened his artistic judgment, skills, and confidence.

Katherine Tod Johnstone Endowed Scholarship Fund (1999) established by the Katherine Tod Johnstone Charitable Remainder Unitrust.

Robert Lynch Sholarship (2009) established by Antonia Johnson of Axel Johnson, Inc.

Platt Scholarship (1998) established by Mrs. F. J. Platt, Jr.

Ann and Greg Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund (1999) in memory of Edward Gregory Smith.

Southwick Scholarship Fund (2005) established by Dr. Wayne and Ms. Ann Southwick, along with family, friends and others.

Scholarship in the memory of Robert K. Chandler (2005) established by Elisabeth Gordon de Gerenday, aka Elisabeth Gordon Chandler.

Marsha Joy Arnold Endowed Scholarship (2013) established by Martin Arnold ’97 in memory of his wife of 50 years, Marsha Joy Arnold to provide a scholarship to a Sculpture student who shows talent and ability.

The Lou and Mary Tagliatela Endowed Scholarship for Lyme Academy (2016) established by Stephen Tagliatela. Stephen served as the Academy’s Board of Trustees Chairman.

Deane G. Keller Scholarship (1992) established upon Deane Keller’s death to honor Deane Keller and his son, Deane Galloway Keller.

Diana Atwood Scholarship Fund (2016) established by Diana Atwood Johnson. Diana was a long-time benefactor and served on the Board of Trustees.

The John, Diana and Judy Kim Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund (2000) established per family upon Judy’s death. Judy Kim was the step daughter of Trustee, Diana Atwood Johnson. This scholarship provides a scholarship to a 3rd year Core student who has overcome substantial difficulty in order to pursue an education as an artist, and to reward effort and perserverance.

Opus Animae Caritas Youth Scholarship (2024) established to provide scholarships to high school students ages 12 and up for the purpose of participating in the Young Masters Afterschool Program. Made in loving memory of Opus by best friend Chris Morrissey. Opus Animae Caritas means “charity is the work of the soul” in Latin.

Opus Animae Caritas Travel/Study Abroad Scholarship (2024) Awarded to a Core Program 2nd or 3rd year student for the purpose of international travel and to immerse oneself in artistic and cultural activities that will advance his/her artistic & professional development, expand learning, and provide opportunities to connect with local artists, as well as international students & peers. Made in loving memory of Opus by best friend Chris Morrissey. Opus Animae Caritas means “charity is the work of the soul” in Latin.

Opus Animae Caritas Pre-College Portfolio Prep Program Scholarship (2024) established to provide scholarships to rising high school seniors for the purpose of participating in the Portfolio Preparatory Program. Made in loving memory of Opus by best friend Chris Morrissey. Opus Animae Caritas means “charity is the work of the soul” in Latin.

Ayrshire Atelier Residency Award (2025) is given to a Core Drawing & Painting student or graduate to participate in a one-month mentored artist residency in North Ayrshire, Scotland, including studio space and accommodations.

Brookgreen Gardens Scholarship (2025) established to provide two scholarships of $2,500 each to two Lyme Academy students to attend a 5-day workshop in the fall at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, a unique melding of art, nature, and history. Brookgreen Gardens contains the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the country.

The Carleton Wiggins Scholarship for Painting was established by Grafton Wiggins in memory of his father, Carleton Wiggins, a scholarship granted annually to a different recipient each year. Awardee is selected by Artistic Directors with input from faculty and announced at graduation.

Youth Scholarships

Opus Animae Caritas Pre-College Portfolio Prep Program Scholarship

Two tuition scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to rising high school seniors to participate in the 2025 Summer Youth Academy Portfolio Prep Program. Lyme Academy’s program allows rising, college-bound seniors to create a competitive art portfolio to support their admissions applications.

Opus Animae Caritas Youth Scholarship

Five registration scholarships of $900 will be awarded to students ages 12+ to participate in the Young Masters Afterschool Program.

Deadline to Apply: August 15, 2025
Awarded: Late August 2025
For Use/Period: Five registration scholarships are available for one class per week for three trimesters beginning October 2025 through June 2026.
Eligibility/Criteria: Complete the scholarship application form.
