Terra Anima

The Lyme Academy of Fine Arts is pleased to present Terra Anima, a terracotta sculpture exhibition featuring and created by its Core Program students. Taking place in Lyme Academy’s historic Sill House (ca. 1817), this exhibition marks the first of what will become a yearly Lyme Academy tradition and a traveling showcase event.

Rooted in Italian Renaissance traditions of art-making, the sculptures in this exhibition evoke the legacy of Michelangelo, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, Antonio Canova, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and other Old Masters, while also reflecting contemporary personal experience. Both preparatory sketches and finished and fired clay sculptures are displayed to demonstrate the terracotta process, from first gesture to resolved form. Works include creative compositions as well as studies from life.

Terra Anima will be on view for one weekend only, March 28-29, 2026, 12 – 4 pm. During the exhibition, visitors may purchase select artworks.
