Vincent Desiderio Artist Lecture
The Lyme Academy of Fine Arts is pleased to present a guest lecture by artist Vincent Desiderio at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 in the Academy’s Wilson-Riley Library. Mr. Desiderio will speak about his work and the decisions he has made “to break from traditional paradigms in order to help set the stage for a new approach to the understanding of painting, touching on history and the origins of our current conditions.” The lecture is free and open to the public.
Vincent Desiderio graduated from Haverford College in 1977 and later attended the Accademia di belle arti in Florence, Italy, followed by four years at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a Senior Critic at the New York Academy of Art and has been a visiting professor at numerous national and international universities, most recently with a three-year appointment at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China through the country’s “Thousand Talent Program.” The recipient of numerous prestigious grants and awards, as well as honorary doctorates, Desiderio’s work can be found in many notable public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Museum of American Art, Philadelphia, PA; The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; Galerie Sammlung Ludwig, Aachen, Germany; The Albright Knox Museum, NY; Museo Botero, Bogota, Columbia; and The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
