Terra Anima
This exhibition presents a wide range of terracotta sculptures created by students at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts. Rooted in Italian Renaissance tradition, these sculptures evoke the legacy of the Old Masters, such as Michelangelo, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, Antonio Canova, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, while also reflecting contemporary, personal experience. Both preparatory sketches and finished, fired clay sculptures are displayed to demonstrate the terracotta process, from first gesture to resolved form. Works include creative compositions as well as studies from life. This exhibition marks the first of what will become a yearly Lyme Academy tradition, and a traveling showcase event.
Terra Anima will be on view in Sill House for one weekend only, March 28-29, 2026, 12 pm – 4 pm. During the exhibition, visitors may purchase select artworks. Continue the legacy of community support, as past and present unite in this storied space!
