Expression, pathos, and beauty are qualities that connect us to the works of the Old Masters. In this five-day workshop, artists will learn the fundamentals and nuances of painting an expressive and graceful portrait. With an emphasis on structure and anatomy, the instructor will help students understand likeness through the careful observation of proportion, skeletal landmarks, and abstract shape design. Artists will also learn how to add a sculptural quality to their portraits through in-depth analyses of light sources.
There will be two model poses over the 5-day workshop. The process begins with the block-in stage, which aims to capture the likeness and character through accurate proportion, shape design, and structural anatomy. After the block-in is complete, students will move into modeling form. Comparative measurement, materials, expression, and color will also be discussed.
Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to join.
Please consult the Materials List to confirm and/or obtain the items you will need for the workshop. Workshop participants receive 10% off materials and supplies at de Gerenday's Fine Art Materials and Curiosities.
Tyler Berry was born and raised in Middlefield, Connecticut.
