This foundational workshop will immerse students in the academic painting tradition of portraiture. Students will focus on direct observation while working from the portrait model, as they explore the fundamental properties of light, form, structure, proportion, and gesture. Students will learn to employ a direct-painting method, with focused discussions about paint handling and color mixing.
Tyler Berry was born and raised in Middlefield, CT. In 2016 he received a BFA from Hartford Art School, and subsequently worked as an animator in Greece. While working in Poland on the feature film Loving Vincent, Tyler frequented art museums across Europe, studying the work of the Old Masters as well as antique sculpture. The impact of these experiences can be seen in his focus on portraiture and figuration, and the pursuit of beauty and fidelity to nature in his own work. Tyler is the recipient of numerous awards and has participated in many group shows in New York City, as well as throughout New England and Europe. A graduate of Grand Central Atelier's Core Program, Tyler currently lives and works in New York.
