Painting the Coastal Landscape

On-site: September 20 – 24, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This course will deal with all aspects of the coastal environment and how to capture and compose it in a painting. We will work on site and in the studio. Field studies and drawings will be executed, as well as plein air paintings. Our field material will be taken into the studio to compose larger works.
Subject will consist of natural coastline and surf, seaside dwellings and watercraft. Observing changing weather conditions will also be part of the research.
Artistic study will include, concept, design/composition, value structure, draftsmanship, color and technique. Taking the subject as it’s found and observed and elevating it to a high aesthetic is the intention of this course.
Prerequisite: Foundation and Intermediate Courses or permission of the instructor
