Figure Drawing from Life with Thomas LaPine

Instructor: Thomas LaPine
Dates: July 25–29 (Monday–Friday)
Times: 9 am–12:30 pm
Workshop Location: Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, Old Lyme, CT
Levels/Ages: All levels welcome; ages 14+

Students will work using direct observation of the live figure model. Students will learn to draw utilizing a sequential, systematic progression designed to strengthen visual acuity and develop a strategic approach to interpreting the visual experience. An intimate class size allows for in-studio demonstrations and individualized critiques

Students may take workshops separately, but we strongly encourage attending the drawing series as a foundation for the painting workshops.

Artist Bio
Thomas LaPine uses drawing and painting to actively participate and engage with the world. As a student of academic principles, he strives to expand these traditions in a way that celebrates both historical and modern viewpoints. Focusing on direct representation and specializing in the human figure, Thomas seeks a balance between the visual impression reflected in 19th-century academic drawings and the tactile experience inspired by the Dutch masters. Through extensive study and travel around the world, he has acquired an astute perspective on the fine arts and its relevance to contemporary culture. Thomas currently lives in Connecticut, where he studies and works at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.

Please consult the instructor's supply list to confirm and/or obtain the items necessary for the workshop.
