Alberto Giacometti

Instructor: Marissa Asal
On-site: July 12- 16, Monday-Friday, 9 am – 3 pm

"Artistically I am still a child with a whole life ahead of me to discover and create."

Alberto Giacometti is best recognized for his slender, minimalized figures with long limbs and necks. However, his importance as an artist is derived from his Surrealist innovation of sculptural form. He created unique pieces influenced from primitive art and objects, reminiscent of toys, games and architectural models. His work examines fragile beauty, isolation and loneliness through his advanced use of special distance, empty space, agitated line and minimal color.

Students apprenticing with Giacometti will use limited palette colors to express emotion and line to express energy. A direct plaster sculpture project will celebrate the thin forms of Giacometti’s figures and students will work from toys and small objects to create intimate still-life work with personal meaning.

All students must review and accept our Youth Programming Policies and Procedures. In addition, a Participant Conduct Agreement and Medical Form are required, which may be completed and submitted online.
