Light, volume, and color are crucial elements within the artistic world. In this workshop, we will investigate these concepts – and many others – through the medium of the figure. Participants will work with a live model and have the option of drawing or painting, with an emphasis on accurate observation. The class will navigate the complexities of the drawing and painting process by breaking each down into easily accessible steps and answering questions pertaining to the physics of light and our perceptions of value. Throughout this process, individual instruction will be complemented by instructor-led demonstrations, all to illustrate the methodology in the most clear and helpful way. The goal will be to complete a single figure work by the end of the workshop, with the possibility of initiating a second drawing or painting from a different vantage point.
Please consult the instructor's supply list to confirm and/or obtain the items necessary for the workshop.
The health and safety of our guests are of the utmost priority to the Academy. Workshop participants will be required to show proof of vaccination, and we require that everyone follow safety measures, including social distancing and wearing masks.
We are regularly monitoring the guidelines of the CDC and will adjust our policies accordingly.
Lucas Bononi (b. 1991, Los Angeles) is an academically-trained contemporary painter living and working in New York, NY. His paintings reflect nature through the lens of the modern world. With nuance, color, and light, Bononi investigates monotonous city life while expressing nature’s unrepeatable beauty. His work asks us to simultaneously question relationships between figuration and abstraction, beauty and chaos. His latest solo exhibition is currently on view at Sugarlift Gallery in Chelsea, NYC.
Students between 14-18 years old must review and accept our Youth Programming Policies and Procedures. In addition, a Participant Conduct Agreement and Medical Form are required, which may be completed and submitted online.
