In this sweeping lecture, spanning the art studios of New York, Florence, and Old Lyme to life as a Monuments Man and celebrated professor, Dr. William Keller presents the life and work of his father, Deane Keller, Sr., and his brother, Deane G. Keller, from the unique perspectives of an “insider” and art historian. Dr. Keller’s lecture provides rare insight into the extraordinary history of this family of artists and scholars, and into a relationship with the Lyme Academy that has endured for more than 25 years.

Bio

William Keller, Ph.D. (son of Deane Keller, Sr. and brother of Deane G. Keller) is an historian of architecture and urban planning, with particular interests in cultural landscapes, borderlands, and human geography. Keller graduated from Yale and concentrated on Northern Renaissance art at Columbia University, before earning his Ph.D. in Art History at the University of Delaware. Over a career of 40+ years, Keller has held positions at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale; the Maryland Center for History and Culture and Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore; George Washington University, Washington, D.C.; and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he served as Fine Arts Librarian. In addition, Keller was principal investigator on several privately- and federally-funded bibliographic control and digital projects, in support of public access to special library collections and archives.
