Live Portrait Drawing Demonstration with Dan Thompson

Dan Thompson will share his extraordinary drawing abilities, and thoughts on the process, while answering questions from the audience during this three-hour live drawing demonstration.

Artist Bio

Dan Thompson has exhibited in public and private collections throughout the world, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the National Arts Club, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Forbes Galleries, the Dahesh Museum of Art, Museo MEAM de Barcelona, the Shanghai Art Museum and Beijing’s World Art Museum. He has won numerous awards, ranging from the Grand Prize, American Society of Portrait Artists; First Prize in Figure Drawing at the Salmagundi Club; as well as two Bernstein awards from the Corcoran School of Art, and being designated a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center. Thompson co-founded two art schools in New York City, and has taught master classes and workshops internationally and nationally for more than twenty years. He has held long-term teaching appointments at the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, Parsons the New School for Design, Studio Incamminati, and the New York Academy of Art.

Parking Information and Campus Directions

Coming from I-95, on Lyme Street, enter the first parking lot on Lyme Academy’s campus. If you pull into the 2nd parking lot into the circle driveway, exit the lot and turn left, to get to the first parking lot.

From the parking lot follow the path under the breezeway, into the courtyard, and enter into the building from the courtyard, the Stobart Studio is the studio you see from the courtyard with the barn door.

According to the current CDC guidelines for New London County, Connecticut, community transmission is substantial.

The health and safety of our guests are of the utmost priority to the Academy. Guests will be required to show proof of vaccination at the door, and we require that everyone follow safety measures, including social distancing and wearing masks.
