Position Description: Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs
The Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs is ultimately accountable for
all aspects of the academic program, and executes the task by being a hands-on
leader and motivator, who works effectively with his/her colleagues. The Dean
and V.P. of Academic Affairs at the Lyme Academy College must have a
demonstrated commitment to the College’s mission and be visionary in maintaining
its artistic distinction and potential.
The Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs, as the College’s chief academic
officer, is a member of the senior staff and reports to the President. The
Assistant Dean and Directors of Admissions and the Library report to the Dean
and V.P. of Academic Affairs
Duties:
• Leadership and creativity in curriculum planning, academic program
development, formulation of academic policy, and enrollment strategies and
management;
• Leadership and support of the faculty; the management of its development,
supervision, evaluation, selection, recruitment, terms of employment,
compensation and welfare;
• Provide governance guidance to faculty council and chairs, and facilitate
faculty communication, and collegiality; ensure academic freedom;
• Chair the chairs committee, which is responsible for all curricular matters,
including academic advisement;
• Responsible for upholding and adjudicating the institutional policies as
stated in the Faculty Handbook and the Student Handbook;
• Oversee the development, management, and growth of admissions programs and
activities, in conjunction with the Director of Marketing and P.R.;
• Annual and long range budget and facilities planning, in conjunction with the
President and V.P. for Finance and Operations;
• Assist with fundraising proposal development, solicitation or cultivation as
indicated; support alumni activities; both activities in conjunction with the
V.P. of External Affairs;
• Serve as staff liaison to, and member of, the Board’s Academic Affairs
Committee, and attend meetings of the Board of Trustees;
• Represent the College as its chief academic officer in the community with
consortia, professional associations, conferences, and other functions, that
serve to further the College’s leadership positions;
• Responsible for the writing of reports, and completion of statistical surveys,
both internal and external, as required;
• Undertake any other initiatives that are necessary to support the College’s
mission.
Qualifications:
• A leadership style that is characterized by trust, openness, collegiality, and
creativity; high energy, decisiveness, and a commitment to LCFA’s mission,
values and priorities.
• A keen awareness of and appreciation for the full range of fine arts, historic
and contemporary, and the humanities.
• Demonstrated ability to be inclusive of affected constituencies and of using
consensus when determining policy or making decisions.
• Professional achievements sufficient to gain the respect of the College
community, and a terminal degree or its equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills and ability, oral and written.
• Demonstrated evidence of leadership ability in Academic administration with a
minimum of four years successful experience
