If
you're older and considering returning to school, you're not
alone. Like others, you probably have
many questions, including: |
| “Can
I apply for college financial aid?” |
| Yes, your age makes no difference; neither
does whether you work or attend college part-time or full-time. You
must, however, show financial need and be enrolled in a degree program
(taking at least six credits) in order to be eligible to receive
Federal and most State aid. Any degree-seeking student can apply
for the merit based Lyme Academy Scholarships or other private grants.
When searching for grants, look for all those that apply to you as
an older student (non-traditional) returning to college.
If you already have an Undergraduate Degree you will not be eligible
for the Federal PELL Grant, but you can still apply for Loans and
State Aid programs. |
| “How
is financial need determined?” |
| Your Federal financial need is determined
by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available
at college financial aid offices or on the WEB at www.fafsa.ed.gov/ (code
# is 030794). You also become
eligible to apply for Federal Loans by filing the FAFSA. Please feel
free to call the financial aid officer at the Lyme Academy, Jim Falconer,
for basic information to help get you started: 860-434-5232-121,
or email him at jfalconer@lymeacademy.edu. See Student
Loans. |
| “Is there Merit Aid available?” |
| You can search for Merit based aid locally
(go to your library & search their database) and nationally or
use the Web Scholarships Web Search You can also apply for MERIT
Aid from the Lyme Academy . See Scholarships
Merit. |
| “Are
there any other Options?” |
| Yes…there are other factors that influence
your College quest. Go to Financing
Options and Tax Credits for
more information. |
